NEW YEAR, NEW ASSISTANTS

Welcome back!
This year the bilingual programme continues in all four years of  E.S.O. We also have working with us two language assistants: Linnaea (from the US) and Sarah (from Scotland). So we´ll be able to learn a bit more about their culture and, of course, their language!

50th ANNIVERSARY OF OUR SCHOOL

Throughout the academic course 2009-2010 we have been celebrating the 50th anniversary of our school with a variety of activities. Next June 19 these celebrations come to an end. This is the programme:
12.00 Music concert
Dance
Presentation of the school anthem.
Closing ceremony of the exhibition "50 years of Eulogio Florentino
Sanz".
13.00 Presentation of the book commemorating the 50 years of the school.
Lectures by Melquíades González del Río and J.M.Bernaldo Quirós.
14.20 Fireworks Grand Finale.
15.00 Lunch at "las Fuentes" restaurant in Arévalo.

WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA!

This month we´ve had the chance to know a lot more about California thanks to Mark, one of our American assistants. He gave some talks to our students about California.We learnt you can find "Avila beach" there! He also talked about San Diego, his hometown. So, as it seems, it´s the place to go!

MORE ACTIVITIES GOING ON

TRIPS: By the end of March some of our students went on an exchange programme to Autun (France) accompanied by two of their French teachers, Azucena Yagüe and Francisco López.
We are expecting them to visit us on the 8th May.

Another trip which took place right after the Easter holidays was "Aulas Activas" at Villardeciervos (Zamora). Some students from 2º E.S.O. took part in different activities.

BOOK WEEK

It will take place from 22-26 March at our school. Among the activities we can mention:
-Music and Poetry. Tribute to Miguel Hernández.
-Lecture by Jesús Hedo: "Los hermanos Machado".
-Meeting with the writer Heinz Delam.
-Lecture by José Jiménez Lozano, writer awarded with the Cervantes Prize in 2002.
-Book Market and prize-giving ceremony to the winners of the XXXth Poetry and Narrative Prize and Christmas postcards.

VISIT TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

14 students from "Administration and Management" and "Administration and Finances" recently visited the European Parliament in Brussels accompanied by two of their teachers, Julia and Mar. They surely enjoyed it a lot and will always remember the European Presidency of Spain in the EU. Here we have some pictures. Have a look at them.

THE BIG CHALLENGE

Many of you already know of the European English Contest, The Big Challenge, for the E.S.O. levels. This year it will take place on the 6th of May. You can practise on the website, it´s very easy and it will help you check your grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation...

PEACE

On January the 29th we celebrated the International Day of Peace at our school, I.E.S. "Eulogio Florentino Sanz" in Arévalo (Avila)- Spain. The walls were covered with posters and the word "Peace" in several world languages. We were assisted by Mark and Carmella, our American language assistants. Carmella read the lyrics of "Imagine", the popular song by John Lennon. Then, some other teachers played the song led by Pedro singing in English and accompanied by Joaquín and Mark on guitar, and Elías on the keyboard. It was a fantastic experience!
